Sucess for Madeira Ladies

Joy Penberthy

Good results this past week for Madeira Ladies

Over the weekend Madeira were very busy with competitions. Friday and Saturday saw the first semi final of the Devon County triples played at South Hams. the game  played by Jan Roberts, Janine Orchard, and Catherine King, was very close ending with a thrilling end with Madeira trio losing by just one shot to Plymouth. The next morning Janine Orchard and Joy Penberthy made their way again , this time to play in the County pairs, they had an excellent game winning by 10 shots, they now proceed to the final game on Saturday 7th April. We were represented in the fours, Sue Harriott and her team of Chris Macaulay, Nikki Fiddimore and Janine Orchard will represent Madeira in the final in April.
The following day [its a hard life being a bowler] Madeira travelled to Honiton to play in the Lace Makers competition against Isca an Exeter based team. This was a semi-final that turned out well for Madeira. The first game a two wood single we lost, then we lost the four wood singles after a valiant effort by just 2 shots. That meant Madeira had to win the remaining 3 games, so no pressure! The rinks won easily 31—11. The triples had a good game winning 20—13 so now we were 2 games all. It was left to the pairs, the spectators were fingers crossed as the score was even on the last end, but Sue Harriott calmly bowled the last wood to win the game by 24-23. Madeira now go to Honiton on the 25th March to play Plymouth in the final. This is the first time Madeira have reached this particular final so we will be watching and cheering them on.
